Laser manufacturing classification

- from the principle of laser, we can know that laser has four characteristics: good monochromaticity, good coherence, good directivity and high brightness, commonly known as 'three good and one high'.

Laser macro manufacturing technology can be divided into two categories: conventional laser manufacturing and laser additive manufacturing. Laser macro manufacturing technology mainly uses the two characteristics of high brightness and good directivity of laser.

1) Conventional laser manufacturing

1. Basic principle: when the laser with enough brightness is not focused on the designated part of the processed material, the processed material can undergo gasification, melting, metallographic structure and internal stress change after being irradiated by laser with different plastic parameters, so as to achieve different processing purposes such as material removal, connection, modification and separation.

2 main process methods: the main process methods of conventional laser manufacturing include laser surface engineering (including laser surface treatment, laser quenching, laser spraying, laser vapor deposition, laser shock hardening, etc., and the common laser marking in China can also be classified into laser surface treatment), laser welding, laser cutting and other main process methods.

2) Laser additive manufacturing

Laser additive manufacturing technology is a kind of additive manufacturing technology with laser as energy source. According to the forming principle, it can be divided into two categories: selective laser melting and direct laser metal forming.

(2) Working principle: laser selective melting technology is a kind of technology which uses high-energy laser beam to scan the metal powder covered in the powder bed in advance and melt it completely according to the predetermined scanning path, and then forms the workpiece after cooling and solidification

The technical features are as follows

1. The forming material is usually metal powder, mainly including stainless steel, high temperature alloy, titanium alloy, high strength aluminum alloy and precious metal.

2. The mechanical properties of the formed parts are good, the drawing can surpass the casting and reach the level of the exercise parts.

3. Because of the slow feeding speed, the forming efficiency is low, and the size of parts is limited by the powder spreading box, so it is not suitable for manufacturing large-scale integral parts.

Characteristics of laser manufacturing

1. The same laser source is used on the same equipment. By changing the control mode of the laser source, the cutting, drilling, welding, surface treatment and other processing of the same material can be realized respectively. It can be processed step by step and at several working positions at the same time.

2. In a short time to complete the powder contact flexible processing, the workpiece has no mechanical deformation, the thermal deformation is very small, the follow-up processing amount is small, and the loss of processed materials is also small. The laser beam is easy to realize various optical transformations such as guiding and focusing, and it is easy to realize the automatic processing of complex workpieces.
